1. Dare to be Wrong
You want real results? Put in some REAL WORK. It is easy to feel unmotivated and unaccomplished when you have little to show for yourself. You take one small step forwards and when it doesn't instantly bring results, you give up and take three steps back. This is a destructive and inefficient pattern. You're trying to be perfect. Stop it.
This ALL OR NOTHING approach simply won't work. DITCH YOUR PERFECTIONISM. Have patience to see things through. Know that FAILURE IS A FRIEND and a vital stepping stone.
The most successful people on this planet have gotten to where they are by simply MAKING MORE MISTAKES than others. More mistakes = more failures = more experiences = more opportunities to learn and more opportunities to succeed.
Better to do SOMETHING imperfectly than do to NOTHING perfectly. Every time.
Rule 1: Make it your goal to make more mistakes than others.
2. Just Do It
Is failure and learning difficult? YES. Is growth painful? A resounding YES!
Has anyone ever achieved anything by just thinking about it, contemplating it? NO! You need to employ the ancient wisdom of GOYA = Get Off Your Ass and do it.
Have bias for action. Whenever you are doubting your ability, or simply hesitating to get started, use the 5-4-3-2-1 method. This method says you should not allow more than 5 seconds between your thought and your decision to act:
- Afraid of speaking up in a meeting? 5-4-3-2-1 GO! Raise your hand and speak.
- Afraid of asking someone out on a date? 5-4-3-2-1 and action!
- Don't feel like getting up out of bed in the morning to start your yoga routine? Of course you don't. Neither do I. 5-4-3-2-1- and up you get!
SHORTEN the time between your call to action and the action itself. You will find yourself moving forwards with greater ease. Don't overthink. Half of success is SIMPLY SHOWING UP and GETTING STARTED.
Rule 2: Get out of your head. Launch into action like a rocket 5-4-3-2-1
3. Success Snowball Effect
Most importantly, by TAKING ACTION and GETTING THINGS DONE, you are getting your momentum going. Each time you take a step forward, you receive the satisfaction of INSTANT GRATIFICATION. And this has a positive snowball effect. It sends you positive feedback validating you as a COMPETENT ACHIEVER.
The more you KEEP YOUR PROMISES to yourself, the better and more capable you feel, the more action you take, the braver and bolder you are and so on. If you keep this MOMENTUM going, you become UNSTOPPABLE and your success becomes INEVITABLE.
Moreover, keeping the promises and intentions and resolutions we make to ourselves, is so important to our SELF-ESTEEM-. If you can't trust yourself to keep your word, how can you expect anyone else to believe in you?
Rule 3: Your promises to yourself are sacred. Keep your word.
And with that, I leave you to STOP READING about personal growth, and START GROWING!
Have a wonderful snowy day!
Your,
